Product Testing

Test the idea.
Strengthen the launch.

A promising concept deserves more than internal enthusiasm. Put ideas, prototypes, features, packaging and price in front of the people they are meant to serve, while there is still time to learn and improve.

01 / THE DECISIONSTART WITH WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The costliest feedback often arrives after launch.

Teams become close to the product they are building. A feature that seems obvious in a meeting may confuse a first-time user. A benefit the team loves may matter less than a basic problem the product still leaves unsolved. Product testing makes room for the audience’s honest reaction before design, production or promotion hardens around an assumption.

01 / QUESTION

Is the problem worth solving?

Check whether the need is real, frequent or important enough to motivate a change.

02 / QUESTION

Does the concept make sense?

Find out what people understand, value, question or misunderstand at first encounter.

03 / QUESTION

What should we improve?

Identify the features, experience details and claims that drive preference or friction.

04 / QUESTION

What is the price story?

Explore perceived value and the trade-offs people make against available alternatives.

02 / WHAT WE EXPLOREDEPTH WHERE IT MATTERS

Learn at every stage, from first sketch to real use.

The question changes as a product develops. We match the test to the maturity of the idea and the decision ahead.

01

Idea and concept screening

Compare early directions for relevance, clarity, difference and appeal. Use results to refine the proposition or decide which idea deserves the next round of investment.

02

Prototype and usability

Watch people interact with a sample, interface or service flow. See what they can complete, where they hesitate and what they expected to happen instead.

03

Feature and trade-off research

Explore which benefits carry real value, what people would give up, and how bundles or configurations change preference. Use more structured testing when a prioritisation decision calls for it.

04

Price, packaging and post-launch learning

Test value perceptions before launch and study actual use afterwards. Distinguish early curiosity from repeat relevance and identify improvements that could strengthen adoption.

03 / THE HUMAN STORY

“I like it” is not the same as “I would use it.”

A participant can be polite, interested and full of compliments. Then you ask them to complete a real task, choose between alternatives or explain when they would spend money on the product. The conversation becomes more revealing. Testing is designed to get past surface approval and into the trade-offs customers actually make.

The aim is not to prove the team right. It is to learn which parts of an idea are strong, which need work, and what evidence is still missing before the next commitment.

FROM ASSUMPTION TO UNDERSTANDING
04 / THE PRRD EXCEL DIFFERENCE

How PRRD Excel keeps testing honest and useful.

PRRD Excel works backwards from your next product decision: choose a concept, refine a feature, set a price, improve usability or assess readiness. We recruit people who resemble the intended users, present ideas clearly without selling them, and use tasks or comparisons that reveal behaviour alongside stated opinion.

We report encouraging signals and uncomfortable ones with equal care. Our field team can capture how an offer is interpreted in its intended context, and our analysis separates a fixable communication issue from a deeper product problem. You leave with priorities for iteration and a clear view of what the test can and cannot predict.

05 / HOW WE WORKFROM BRIEF TO BETTER DECISIONS
A CLEAR ROUTE THROUGH THE WORK

Thoughtful at every step. Useful at the end.

01

Set the decision rule

We agree what a useful test must reveal and what would change the product plan.

02

Prepare fair stimuli

We ensure concepts or prototypes are understandable and comparable without leading the participant.

03

Observe and probe

We gather reactions, tasks and trade-offs from the audience in a suitable setting.

04

Prioritise iteration

We identify what to keep, change, retest or stop before the next investment.

06 / WHAT YOU TAKE FORWARDRESEARCH THAT TRAVELS INTO ACTION

Give the product team evidence it can build from.

Feedback becomes useful when it is tied to decisions and the stage of development.

01 / OUTCOME

Concept diagnosis

What is relevant, distinctive, confusing or missing in the proposition.

02 / OUTCOME

Experience friction

Where users hesitate, fail or find a workaround in the intended flow.

03 / OUTCOME

Priority trade-offs

Which features and benefits matter most to the audiences you want to serve.

04 / OUTCOME

Next-test roadmap

The changes to make now and the uncertainties to validate later.

07 / BEFORE WE BEGIN

Good questions deserve straight answers.

You do not need a perfect brief to start a useful conversation. Here are a few questions clients often bring to us.

Can we test an idea before a prototype exists?

Yes. Early concept material can be tested if it communicates the offer clearly. The questions and conclusions must be appropriate to that early stage.

Can a concept test predict sales?

It can show reactions and comparative signals, but stated intent is not a sales forecast. We interpret findings alongside distribution, price, competition and actual behaviour where available.

How many product versions can we compare?

That depends on the method, audience and decision. We would avoid overloading participants and choose a design that allows meaningful comparison.

THE NEXT MOVE STARTS WITH A QUESTION
